Inflation is a word we haven’t heard for quite some time in the U.S. But now that it’s back in the news — and the economy — it’s time to learn all its various facets, its impact on the commercial real estate industry, and what resources to monitor now and in the future.
CCIM Institute Chief Economist K.C. Conway, CCIM, MAI, CRE, leads a new and highly topical course, Inflation’s Impact on Commercial Real Estate. In this course you’ll gain an understanding of how inflation, deflation, stagflation, and hyperinflation are related; what economic influences led to double-digit inflation in the 1970s; and whether we’ll see a repeat of this perfect storm in the 2020s.
You’ll also learn how to measure inflation and determine its impact on the industry, including exploring terms like CPI, PPI, HPA, and PCE — how they are measured, and, most importantly, how they impact current capital markets. Other topics covered include U.S. monetary policy, the Federal Reserve, the 10-year U.S. Treasury note, and cap rates.
